The Ship: I've tl;dr'd to you before but, basically, Jack and Ianto were together before they met Kate and now she's in the mix. Kate's relationship with Ianto is generally more "romantic" in the sense that they have the more classic, straight-forward relationship. Jack and her are much more volatile and passionate, when it comes to fighting or sex (or both as it usually works out.).
